Register Your Interest for The Agency Accelerator 2020
If you run a web design agency or web development business, you will be focused on creating great web sites and apps for your clients.
But are you dedicating enough time to grow your agency in a sustainable way? Is all your time is taken up by delivering exceptional client work, at some point your agency is going to fall over.
To prevent this from happening, you need to allocate sufficient time to create a visionary yet pragmatic plan, focus on business development (and producing great pitches and proposals), together with a robust set of products/services and a fantastic onboarding and retention plan for your customers. At the same time, you need to manage your team, watch the cashflow and profits and fend over the competition by creating a clear niche and USP for your agency.
Scope creep and over demanding clients are one of the biggest challenges for web agencies. We all want to delight our clients and do an outstanding job. But this cannot be to the detriment of your company’s health and profits!
So, how do you manage this? How can you push back on that demanding client or, better still, have such a clear scope of work at the start that the client never asks for too much more? While these are common issues that I have heard again and again, I have some great tools, techniques and approaches to help you overcome the over servicing epidemic.

When you want to move your agency forward. Maybe you have hit a brick wall and want some support to break through it.
Remember, a sportsman has a coach with him all the time to focus his game, perform at his peak and help him achieve his goals. The same is true in your agency and for you.
According to a recent report published by gov.uk, companies that seek external support are 94% more likely to successfully grow.
I typically work with clients on a monthly basis. Face to face - I usually meet once a month for 2-3 hours. Online clients can be once or twice a month for 1-2 hours.
This is enough time to do some meaningful work but not so much that it becomes intrusive on your 'day job'. You get a set of notes from me with clear actions that you need to complete before our next session. You also get access to all the relevant tools and templates that will help move the coaching process forward.
Good question and it varies from client to client. Some clients need a specific piece of work completing and want a coach/mentor to help drive that forward, so it could be just for 6 months. Some want a trusted advisor by their side so the intervention can be longer.
A minimum time you should commit to is 3-months. This will allow us to do some meaningful work together.
I have 30+ years of commercial business experience. After beginning my career by working in various blue chip companies, I took the leap In 1991 to start my own marketing, PR and design agency. Over the next 11 years, I grew the business into an award-winning agency with 25 staff and revenues in excess of £1.5m. In 2002, I sold the business and then retrained to become a coach and mentor. Since forming Da Costa Coaching in 2007, I have helped over 300 agencies to grow in a sustainable, profitable and enjoyable way.

I have been working with Rob since founding my business three years ago. I chose him thanks to a personal recommendation from a colleague who had worked with Rob and also because he had experience of running his own successful agency in the past. Rob's coaching has helped me gain clarity on how I want my business to develop and given me a clear sense of direction. I can also think of several occasions where Rob's advice has enabled me to win a client I would not otherwise have won and also to charge higher fees than I would otherwise have done. I genuinely believe my business would not be where it is today without Rob's input.
I had to restructure my agency after my business partner decided to leave. I love the project work and our team, but I was disheartened about running a business after a prolonged period of disruption. Rob challenged and supported me to explore how I wanted to move forward and helped me realise I want to grow the business again. He's also helped me develop better practices around team management and client contact. I'm delighted the business and I are now both thriving again - and this couldn't have been possible without Rob's careful input, advice and experience.
